Stop email from being removed from server

I have an issue I am hoping some one can help me with.  When e-mail is being downloaded in outlook 2003 on windows xp in a windows 2003 server environment it is being downloaded into a .pst locally preventing it from being accessible from outlook on another workstation.  This seems to be a server side issue.   I have email account settings on my workstation to download messages to my mailbox, and this is happening on multiple workstations.   I have looked into the group policy templates, but I do not see any policies  for Outlook or exchange that I are configured.  Any suggestions?

    Thanks in advance,

    Nick

    Nick,

I hope I get the idea of what your asking here.  If your concern is that users are downloading their email into a PST file rather than being directly connected to their mailbox (therefore accessible from any client connection), you may want to look at disabling the user's ability to create a PST file in the first place.

The MS KB article, http://support.microsoft.com/kb/896515, describes this option.

    Does this help?

    Regards

    Ian

Hi! You can change this behavior by changing the local delivery to your Exchange mailbox in Outlook. If you have Outlook 2003/2007, click on Tools / Account settings and select Microsoft Exchange on the E-Mail tab. There click "Set as Default" in order to change your local delivery method. If you set a PST as default, any new mail will me moved out of your mailbox to the PST, that's the desired action. Best, Sigi
