Exch2003 server into an Exch 2007 forest?

    Hi,

I have an Exchange 2007 organisation setup from scratch (there was never any previous version of Exchange in the forest). Exchange hasn’t been used at all yet but for a few routing and migration tasks I need to add an Exchange 2003 server.

I know I can’t do this once Exchange 2007 is in place easily but does anyone know if its possible at all? Uninstalling Exchange 2007 or removing organisation information wouldn’t be a problem but I don’t want to start down that route if it can’t be done at all.

I can’t find any info on this so if anybody else has already been there all comments or pointers would be appreciated.

    Regards

    Rob

    Hello,

there is a paragraph in the Exchange 2007 help file, saying that it is not possible to add older verisons later.

Deployment > Upgrading to Exchange 2007 > Coexisting with Exchange Server 2003 and Exchange 2000 Server >  :

"You can install Exchange 2007 in a native mode Exchange organization. However, if you create a new forest in which to install Exchange 2007, you cannot later add earlier versions of Exchange. This scenario is not supported. "

    Bye-bye

Being supported wasn’t a problem for the model office system being setup but rebuilding the whole AD wasn’t practical – hence the question.

I eventually removed all traces of the Exchange 2007 org using ADSI Edit and was able to install Exchange 2003 as required.

    Regards
